I Tried to Forgive… But Nothing Changed

I said the words.

I prayed the prayer.
I told myself, “I forgive them.”

But nothing changed.

The weight didn’t lift.
The replay didn’t stop.
And the pain?
Still there—quiet, heavy, and real.

People told me to “just let it go.”
But they didn’t ask what I was holding.
They didn’t see how deep it went.

So I asked the question no one could seem to answer:

“Why do I still feel stuck… if I forgave them?”

Everyone gave me surface-level advice:

  • “Be the bigger person.”

  • “Don’t let them live rent-free in your head.”

  • “Just move on.”

But none of that touched the part of me that was bleeding under the bandage.

Then God took me back to Colossians 3:13.
Not the churchy version.
The real version.
The one that doesn’t just talk about forgiveness—
but shows you how to live free from what tried to destroy you.

That’s when I realized…

Forgiveness isn’t the finish line.
It’s the first step in a deeper rescue mission.

If you’re like me—
